What is a Cooling tower?
The cooling tower is an equipment used to cool a large amount of process water, by producing artificial rain or thin film of hot water to increase the surface area of the hot water and then exposed it to the air which may flow naturally or by the means of mechanical powered fan called cooling tower fan.
How does the cooling tower works?
Cooling towers work on the principle of evaporation where a high-energy molecule leaves the system and the resultant energy of the remaining molecules reduced.
How cooling tower fan works?
The working principle of the fan is the same as an aeroplane.
The only difference is in-plane lift use to push the plane upward whereas in fan lift used to through the air. Cooling tower fans also use the same principle as an aerofoil. And because it operates 24 Hours and has to displace a large amount of air, therefore, it is a must-use most efficient airfoil in the fan blade. Know more about the cooling tower fan here.
What Is an Evaporative cooling tower fan?

Cooling tower fan blade angle calculation?
The blade angle of any fan cannot be, calculated it is an outcome of the fan design and it can be, selected from the fan performance curve as per the required performance of fan (i.e. airflow, static pressure, RPM, and power).
Cooling tower vibration cause and solution
The source of vibration in a cooling tower is a fan, and the biggest reason for fan vibration is an imbalance, despite this fan tracking, higher tip clearance, and various frequency resonance can also cause high fan vibration. Imbalance and tracking can be addressed at the site, whereas tip clearance is the property of fan shroud, whereas other frequency related issues need high technical know-how to find the cause. And these issues can solve by changing the number of blades in a fan or the blade profile. At Maya, we strictly follow the ISO 1940 for fan balancing and each cooling tower fan/Blade statically/Blade moment balance and hub are dynamically balance to avoid any such occurrence.
Reason for cooling tower fan failure?
In general FRP cooling tower fans are robust and strong enough to carry any load if the structural design is OK. So the reason for fans failure could be – Manufacturing fault. Improper design. Improper selection – This is the main reason for failure as per our observation. Most of the manufacturer having limited blade design. So they force those blade for all the application and duty points. But over a while cooling tower pressure increase very much, and the old fan blades are not able to fulfil the duty point and prone to fail )

The fan is a critical part of the exchanger and it should be considered with seriousness, in a large heat exchanger mostly the fan should be of FRP blade but a small heat exchanger with a fan may have a PVC fan it is not the best fan but still perform good and remain economical.
Heat exchanger working principal?
The fluid caring heat from the source is sprayed on the higher surface area such as –
- Heat exchanger tubes.

- Heat exchanger coil.
- Heat exchanger fins.

And the high volume of air is thrown against this large surface to carry the heat from it, and heated fluid is cooled to the desired level.

During planning and design many factors can affect the heat exchanger performance but once it is installed and working only atmospheric conditions and its fan can impact heat exchanger effectiveness.

What is an air-cooled condenser?
It is an Air-cooled Heat Exchangers. It is a heat rejecting device that used to cool the hot process fluid and dissipate heat in the environment.
In this heating equipment sprayed over a large area by the use of fins. And then airflow passed to this surface to take the heat out. this equipment is also known with the following names:

What is the ACC fan?
It is a short form of air-cooled condenser fans.
What is the material of acc fan in power plants?
Mostly the material of ACC fan in the power plant is fibre reinforced plastic (FRP). Some small fans use different plastic grade, even some of the OEM is still using old metallic blades.
Why ACC Fan Company is different than ACC manufacturer?

Which is a better axial fan or centrifugal fan in mining?
Airfoil axial fan is having maximum efficiency in fan industries and following are the brief difference between axial and centrifugal fans –

Underground coal mine ventilation fans type and selection !
In underground coal mining, various hazardous gases emit and many of them are explosive and it is been derived from many mining accidents that high energy impacts of aluminum on rusty steel can cause a spark. Therefore aluminum bladed fans are banned in underground coal mining.
Coal mine ventilation use all three type of fan Main/Surface fan, Auxiliary ventilation, and booster fan.
So while selecting any of coal mine ventilation fans it should be taken care that underground fan should not have aluminum blade whereas for a surface fan it can be used.
What is the alternative of the aluminum blade in underground coal mining?
In general, steel is considered the only replacement for underground mining ventilation fans blade and by this either we need to compromise with less efficient propeller type fan or need to pay a high cost for CNC machined steel blade.
